Nigeria Correctional Service Denies Bobrisky Transfer to Kirikiri Prison

Bobrisky, who received a six-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to Naira abuse, was rumored to have been quietly moved to Kirikiri Prison last weekend to serve the remainder of his term.

However, an official from the NCoS informed Punch on Thursday, April 18, that Bobrisky was still being held at the Ikoyi prison.

The official, speaking anonymously as he was not authorized to discuss the matter, stated that Bobrisky did not commit a capital offense that would require his transfer to a maximum-security prison where inmates serving life or death sentences are typically housed.

The source explained, “Bobrisky has not been moved; he is still here in Ikoyi. He was not sentenced to death and didn’t receive a life sentence either. Those people sentenced to death and given life sentences are mostly kept in the maximum prison. That is mostly based on capital punishment. As for Bobrisky, he didn’t commit a capital offense, so why would they take him to Kirikiri."

Another official mentioned that while there were discussions about relocating some inmates among the custodial centers in the state, it was still in the planning stages. The NCoS official added that the move was intended to alleviate overcrowding.
