"We are taking this matter seriously and will get to the bottom of it," said NIS spokesperson, Tony Akuneme. "Destroying a travel document is a serious offense, and we will not tolerate such behavior."

The incident, which occurred at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, has sparked widespread outrage and debate on social media.

"We will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and take appropriate action," Akuneme added. "We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist us in our investigation."

The NIS has also warned against destroying travel documents, stating that it is a criminal offense punishable under the law.

"Travel documents are sensitive and important documents that should be handled with care. Destroying them can have serious consequences, including prosecution and travel restrictions," Akuneme said.
