The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has taken swift action by suspending a senior officer, Michael Gbenga Akomolafe, pending the outcome of his trial for alleged drug trafficking offenses.

Akomolafe was recently arraigned before a Federal High Court in Lagos State for allegedly trafficking 8 kilograms of Methamphetamine and 7.60 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, also known as marijuana.

According to the NIS Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, the service was made aware of the officer's alleged involvement in drug trafficking through a publication, leading to his immediate suspension. The NIS has stated that it fully supports the legal proceedings and will await the court's judgment before making further comments on the matter.

The service reaffirmed its commitment to excellent service delivery, discipline, and zero tolerance for criminality, emphasizing that it will not hesitate to sanction any officer whose conduct is contrary to its ideals. The suspension of Akomolafe serves as a clear indication of the NIS's dedication to upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism within its ranks.
