Comrade Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has been urgently taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owerri for medical treatment.

According to a statement released by Comrade Benson Upah, the NLC's head of Information and Publicity, Ajaero was subjected to severe physical assault.

His right eye was completely swollen shut upon contact. He was blindfolded, further assaulted, and transported to an undisclosed location where the brutality continued, including the use of bottles.

Additionally, his belongings, including his phones, money, and personal items, were forcefully taken from him and have not yet been returned.
