Ambassador Christian Okeke from the Nigerian Embassy in the UK, alongside leaders of the Nigerian Students Union, is set to engage with the university’s administration to find a resolution.

This initiative was decided upon following a virtual meeting chaired by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM). The meeting, held on Sunday, included participation from Ambassador Okeke, the President of the Nigerian Students Union UK, Yemi Soile, and several affected students.

NiDCOM's spokesperson, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, confirmed the intervention on Wednesday, stating that during the meeting, the students shared their experiences and expressed optimism for a positive outcome. Dabiri-Erewa encouraged the students to remain calm and avoid taking matters into their own hands, while also appealing to Teesside University for fair treatment of the students.

The issue gained public attention after Nigerian students at Teesside University protested on May 22, 2024, against orders to leave the UK due to alleged non-payment of tuition fees by some students.
