In a significant bust, Indian authorities have apprehended a Nigerian woman, Faith Racheal, for allegedly smuggling and supplying a substantial quantity of psychotropic substances in Delhi.
According to TimesNow, Racheal was arrested on August 14 in the Mehrauli area of Delhi.
"We have seized 3.87 kilograms of mescaline, a powerful hallucinogenic drug, with an estimated value of around Rs 15 crore in the international market," said a police official.
"The drug was smuggled inside packages of branded toffees and fish food, and we believe it was intended for distribution in the party circuit."
Racheal, who initially arrived in India on a medical visa in August 2022, had overstayed her visa period.
During her extended stay, she allegedly became involved with a Nigerian national engaged in drug smuggling and joined a narcotics cartel.
"We are investigating how Racheal became involved with the cartel and the extent of her involvement in the drug trade," said another official. "This arrest is a significant blow to the narcotics cartel operating in Delhi."
Racheal's arrest highlights the growing concern of international drug smuggling and the need for increased vigilance.
"We will continue to work tirelessly to combat drug smuggling and ensure public safety," said a police spokesperson.
