Oluwami Dosunmu-Ogunbi, a Nigerian, has made history as the first black woman to achieve a Ph.D. in U-M Robotics at the University of Michigan.

Her groundbreaking accomplishment was celebrated during the university's commencement ceremony, where she highlighted the roles of advocates and mentors in helping her achieve her goals.

Dosunmu-Ogunbi emphasized the importance of inclusivity in her speech, reflecting on her journey as one of many PhD students initially unsure of their paths but eventually finding abundant opportunities to use engineering expertise for societal advancement.

"A Michigan Engineer is not just a symbol of scientific and technological excellence," she stated. "They embody intellectual curiosity, social awareness, and the ability to develop collaborative solutions for societal problems. They promote inclusivity and innovation, fostering a community dedicated to serving the greater good."

Similarly, Professor Rose-Margaret Ekeng-Itua has shattered barriers by becoming the world's first black woman to earn a Ph.D. in Cybernetics. Her research in this field, which examines information processing in both machines and biological systems, showcases her unwavering dedication to STEM education and excellence.
