Nigerians living abroad have shown their support for the acclaimed chess master, Tunde Onakoya, as he embarks on a quest to surpass the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon.

Onakoya announced the start of the marathon on his X account, captioning it "Game time."

He also stated, "We haven't even begun yet, and Nigerians are already gathering to camp out with me."

One of those rooting for Onakoya is Nigerian singer Adekunle Kosoko, popularly known as Adekunle Gold.

The event, taking place at New York City's iconic Times Square, kicked off at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, and is scheduled to conclude at 8 p.m. on April 19.

Onakoya is prepared to participate in a rigorous chess marathon, aiming to play for 58 hours without a single loss.

The current Guinness World Record, achieved by Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad of Norway on November 11, 2018, stands at 56 hours, 9 minutes, and 37 seconds.
