The Nigerian nation is set to bid a final farewell to Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, the renowned designer of the country's iconic flag, as his burial ceremony is scheduled for September 6.

"We are saddened by the loss of Pa Akinkunmi, a true Nigerian patriot and symbol of national unity," said a government official. "His legacy will live on through the flag he designed, which has become an enduring symbol of our nation's identity and pride."

Pa Akinkunmi, who designed the flag in 1959, was a student at the time, and his entry was selected from over 2,000 submissions. The flag's design, featuring a green white green tricolor, has remained unchanged to this day.

"I was inspired by the need to create a symbol that would unite Nigerians and represent our nation's rich cultural heritage," Pa Akinkunmi once said in an interview. "I am proud to have played a part in shaping Nigeria's identity."

The burial ceremony, which will take place on September 6, is expected to be attended by government officials, dignitaries, and members of the public who wish to pay their respects to the late designer.

"Pa Akinkunmi's contribution to Nigeria's national identity cannot be overstated," said a family member. "We are grateful for the outpouring of tributes and condolences from across the country, and we look forward to celebrating his life and legacy on September 6."
