Police apprehends man who threaten to kill the president of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula:

Brazilian police announced the arrest of a man in the northern state of Para on Friday, who had allegedly threatened to shoot President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva while the President is scheduled to visit the state.

The man allegedly made the threat in a store, asking where Lula would be staying during his visit.

Police also carried out a raid against another individual for making online threats against the President. Lula is scheduled to host a summit of South American leaders in Para next week to discuss the protection of the Amazon rainforest.

Brazilian police announced the arrest of a man who allegedly made threats against President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

The man was reportedly arrested on Thursday following a tip by a witness

According to police, the suspect confessed to taking part in the January 8 riots in Brasilia, in which supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022) stormed the Green Room of Congress and the presidential palace.

The police also said they raided properties associated with the suspect as part of an investigation into potential assassination plots and other crimes.

In Belem, the state capital where Lula will be hosting the summit, police have carried out another raid on a suspect accused of posting threatening images against the president on social media.

The suspect, a security guard, was reportedly found to possess a firearm.

With high levels of polarization following Lula's victory over Bolsonaro in last October's election, authorities remain on high alert for political violence.
