Police in Ekiti State have arrested three suspects accused of attacking farmers and stealing their farm produce.

The suspects were reportedly caught by a police patrol team while transporting the stolen produce in their vehicle.

The police spokesperson, DSP Abutu Sunday, stated that the suspects have confessed to their crimes and will be prosecuted accordingly.

The arrest highlights the importance of police intervention in curbing crime and maintaining safety in Ekiti State.

The statement:

"On 13/07/2023 at about 1400hrs, the Command Rapid Response Squad (RRS)upon a complaint, arrested one Ogunlusi Damilola 'm', Olorunsola Segun 'm' and Sekoni Tunde 'm' who specialize in attacking farmers and stealing their farm produces.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed that on 12/07/2023 at about 1700hrs, they went to the complainant's farm situated off lyin-Ado express Road. lyin-Ekiti, attacked him with a machete and carted away some tubers of yam.

They further confessed that on 27/06/2023, they entered another farm settlement at Ipole-Ekiti where one Awe Taiwo Julius 'm' was inflicted with serious injuries, and ten tubers of yam were carted away in the process. The 85-year-old victim later died while receiving treatment at Ekiti State Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti.''

The police spokesperson also stated that the stolen yam tubers had been recovered, and that the police are still working to apprehend other members of the gang.

Upon the conclusion of the investigation, the suspects will be arraigned in court.
