The incident took place while Odonkoro and other members of the local vigilante group were searching the forest for kidnappers and their victims.

Kidnapping has been on the rise in this area, and Odonkoro was known for his efforts to combat the problem.

Members of the vigilante group witnessed the killing, and a suspect was reportedly arrested the following day.

The vigilante described the tragic events leading up to Odonkoro's death, saying "We divided into two groups to search the forest for the kidnappers and their victims.

While we were trying to find a strategic position, the kidnappers shot Odonkoro and killed him. As the sound of the gunshots reached our other group, they ran in our direction.

The kidnappers fled in panic, leaving behind some items, including a phone, a SIM card, and cooked and raw food.

In light of the recent security concerns in Edo State, the state government is taking measures to strengthen security, including training members of the local vigilante group.

According to the state's Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, over 1,500 people are currently undergoing training to take on this new role.

The training is focused on equipping the vigilantes with the skills and mindset needed to effectively protect the lives of Edo residents.
