Following recent concerns about heightened tensions during the ongoing local government elections in Rivers State, the Inspector General of Police has issued a public caution to Governor Fubara.

Fubara on Friday at a press conference in Port Harcourt, the state capital, warned the IG to be conscious of his role as head of the police force.

He accused the Nigeria Police Force and its Rivers State command of attempting to steal election materials before their actions were foiled.

As the elections unfold, the IGP has deployed additional police officers to Rivers State to ensure the safety of voters and maintain public order throughout the electoral process.

The Nigerian Police Force is prepared to intervene in any situation where peace may be disrupted, and this is not just a matter of election security—it is about safeguarding democracy."

While the IGP refrained from directly accusing Governor Fubara of any involvement in violence or voter manipulation, his public remarks were seen as a preemptive effort to diffuse any attempts to sway election outcomes through force or undue political influence.
