President Tinubu Appoints Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as New Chief Justice of Nigeria

In a historic ceremony, President Bola Tinubu swore in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria, replacing Justice Olukayode Ariwoola who retired on Thursday.

The event took place at the Council Chambers of the State House in Abuja, marking a significant milestone in the country's judicial history.

"I am honored to appoint Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the Chief Justice of Nigeria," President Tinubu said during the ceremony. "Her extensive experience and dedication to the judiciary make her an ideal candidate for this position."

Justice Kekere-Ekun becomes the second female Chief Justice of Nigeria, following in the footsteps of Aloma Mariam Mukhtar who served from 2012 to 2014.

"I am humbled by this appointment and pledge to uphold the integrity and independence of the judiciary," Justice Kekere-Ekun said. "I will work tirelessly to ensure that justice is served and the rule of law is upheld."

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by dignitaries and officials from the judiciary, executive, and legislative arms of government.
