President Tinubu Vows to Power Higher Institutions with 24-Hour Electricity for Enhanced Education

Comrade Sunday Asefon, Senior Special Assistant on Students' Engagement to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has assured that the Presidency is committed to providing all higher institutions with a 24-hour power supply to enhance education.

"The President is passionate about education, and we are working tirelessly to ensure that all higher institutions have access to reliable power," Asefon said during a working visit to the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Abubakar Aliyu, in Abuja.

The Federal Government has already invested over N38,965,147 in power generation in several universities as part of the first phase of the Energizing Education Programme. However, the recent increase in electricity tariffs has impacted public universities, with some paying between N150 million and N300 million monthly for electricity bills.

To address this challenge, the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Power and the Rural Electrification Agency, initiated the Energizing Education Programme to provide reliable power via solar hybrid power plants. The programme initially targets 37 federal universities and 7 affiliated university teaching hospitals.

"We are committed to ensuring that our higher institutions have access to reliable power to enhance education," Asefon said. "We will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to achieve this goal."

The Presidency's commitment to providing 24-hour power supply to higher institutions is a welcome development, and we hope to see significant improvements in the education sector soon.
