Senate Panel Slams NNPCL, FIRS, and 13 Other Agencies for Defying National Assembly and Tinubu's Government

The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has condemned the management of 15 government agencies, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), for their persistent failure to respond to queries raised against them.

Senate Panel Slams NNPCL, FIRS, and 13 Other Agencies for Defying National Assembly and Tinubu's Government

"We are frustrated with the agencies' refusal to honor our invitations to defend queries," said Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, Chairman of the Committee. "This is detrimental to the aspirations and goals of President Bola Tinubu's government. We will not tolerate this level of disrespect and non-compliance."

The agencies involved include the Nigeria Police Force, Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office, and Ministry of Defence, among others.

The Committee warned that any agency that refuses to respond to queries will face sustained queries and be reported to the Senate in plenary.

"We will not hesitate to take action against agencies that refuse to cooperate with us," Senator Aliyu added. "We are determined to ensure transparency and accountability in government agencies."

The queries were raised in the 2019 report of the Auditor General of the Federation (AuGF), and the agencies have failed to respond despite repeated invitations.

"This is unacceptable and undermines the authority of the National Assembly," Senator Aliyu said. "We will continue to push for accountability and transparency in government agencies."
