In a press release issued on Sunday, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) named Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Bello Matawalle (Zamfara), and Adegboyega Oyetola (Osun) as former governors who are now serving as ministers under the Federal Government.

The suit, filed by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), seeks to compel the Federal Government to stop former state governors who are now serving as ministers from receiving life pensions and other "retirement benefits."

SERAP is arguing that it is in the public interest to prevent former governors who are now serving as ministers from receiving these benefits, given the country's current economic situation.

The group is also arguing that the appointment of former governors who are receiving these benefits is an unfair and unlawful use of presidential discretion.In a statement, SERAP questioned the legality of life pensions for former governors who are now serving as ministers.

SERAP argued that while many pensioners are not being paid their pensions, former governors are enjoying huge severance benefits upon leaving office and will soon receive double emoluments as ministers.

The organization further argued that President Tinubu has a constitutional and international legal obligation to stop former governors from receiving these benefits while serving as ministers.

SERAP did not specify when the suit will be heard in court.
