A severe thunderstorm watch is active until 11 a.m. across most of North Texas. Additionally, a flash flood warning is in place until 11:15 a.m. for the Metroplex, covering Denton, Dallas, Tarrant, and Collin counties.

The primary threats from these storms include large hail and damaging winds, with localized flooding also possible. Due to the severe weather, many North Texas schools have either closed or delayed classes.

Power outages caused by the morning storms have impacted polling locations, according to the Dallas County Elections Office. Poll workers will open the sites as soon as power is restored. In Collin County, several polling stations are also without power, with staff directing voters to alternative sites.

Oncor reports that over 600,000 residents in North Texas are currently without power. In Garland, residents are dealing with storm damage, including downed trees and a home struck by lightning. There will be a brief dry period between the morning storms and those expected later in the evening.

The morning storms are predicted to subside around 12:30 p.m., with another round expected to begin around 8:30 p.m., continuing eastward into the night. These later storms may also bring hail and damaging winds. The stormy weather is anticipated to persist into Wednesday.
