Steve Harwell, the voice of Smash Mouth, has passed away at 56.

The cause of death has not been revealed, but Harwell had been receiving hospice care over the weekend.

Hayes, Smash Mouth's manager, described Harwell as an "American Original," with an indomitable drive to achieve pop stardom despite having little musical experience.

He credited Harwell's success to his "irrepressible charm, charisma, and fearlessly reckless ambition," saying he had "king-size cajones" that propelled him to stardom.
