Nigerian writer Solomon Buchi has ignited controversy by declaring his intention to secure only British passports for his children.

Announcing this on Twitter, he faced significant criticism for his stance. Buchi asserted that his children would have British citizenship at birth, and obtaining Nigerian passports would be their choice upon reaching 18.

He argued that true patriotism stems from pride in one's government, a sentiment he does not feel toward Nigeria.

Buchi's tweet included a pointed remark: “My children will be British citizens by birth, and I’m not getting them a Nigerian passport/citizenship until they turn 18 and can decide if they want to get a Nigerian passport. If you think I’m not patriotic, use that your patriotism to buy you a bag of rice for 10K.”
