The Yobe State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the attack, stating that the terrorists also torched a military patrol vehicle. Abdulkarim mentioned that troops and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) engaged the attackers, resulting in the repulsion of the terrorists.

According to reliable local sources, the insurgents arrived in the town around midnight, firing shots indiscriminately before attacking the military base. However, they were driven back into the surrounding bush by the responding troops.

Modu Bahna, a resident of Gujba, recounted the harrowing experience, stating that many residents fled into the surrounding bushes for safety. Another source, Dala Bukar, mentioned that the attackers did not harm civilians or loot stores but focused on the military base, where they attacked two patrol vehicles, resulting in the death of a soldier.

This incident occurred shortly after 15 soldiers, including two Majors, one Captain, and 12 soldiers, were killed during a communal clash between Okuama and Okoloba communities in Delta State. The soldiers reportedly lost their lives while responding to a distress call related to the clash.
