Three high school students have tragically lost their lives in a road accident along the Jahun/Kiyawa Road in Jigawa State.

The State Police Command's spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu, has confirmed this incident in a statement released to the press on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

The accident, which took place on Friday, March 15, involved a Sharon Galaxy vehicle en route to Gwaram Local Government Area of the State. The vehicle was being driven by a 50-year-old individual named Rabi’u Abdullahi from Babaldo town in Gwaram LGA.

The vehicle, carrying students from Government Girls Secondary School Kaugama who were on vacation to Gwaram, overturned following a tire blowout at Kadirawa Village.

Shiisu mentioned that while eight students were treated and discharged at Jahun General Hospital, the driver and six others were transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu for further medical attention.

The spokesperson additionally indicated that initial investigations point to overloading and worn-out tires as factors contributing to the accident.

He informed that the bodies of the three deceased students were handed over to the Education Secretary of Gwaram LGA on behalf of their families.
