A devastating incident has shaken the Federal University of Technology Minna (FUTMinna) community, as 200-level Mathematics student Abdulafatai Abdulsalam collapsed and died while jogging on campus.
The tragic event was confirmed by Divine Prince Daniel, President-Elect of the Student Union Government (SUG), in a statement released on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
"It is with a heavy heart that I announce the sudden passing of our dear colleague, Abdulafatai Abdulsalam," Divine Prince Daniel said. "He was a vibrant and promising student who had his whole life ahead of him. His untimely death is a shock to us all, and we mourn the loss of a bright future."
The university community is still reeling from the news, with many students and faculty members expressing their condolences and tributes to the deceased student.
"Abdulafatai was a dedicated student and a passionate individual who will be deeply missed," said a friend and classmate. "His love for mathematics and his enthusiasm for life were inspiring to all who knew him."
The cause of Abdulafatai's death is still unknown, but the university has promised to investigate the incident and provide support to the affected family and friends.
"We will do everything possible to ensure that the circumstances surrounding Abdulafatai's death are thoroughly investigated," said a university spokesperson. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time."
