A United Methodist Church cleric in Zimbabwe, Reverend Oscar Mukahanana, reportedly committed suicide after an audio recording of an extramarital affair that he had with a female member of the church leaked on WhatsApp.

According to reports, the audio recording revealed intimate details of their relationship and caused embarrassment to Reverend Mukahanana and the church. Reverend Mukahanana had been serving as the District Superintendent of the Harare East District in Zimbabwe.

The United Methodist Church is an international church with over 12 million members worldwide.The leak of the intimate audio recording on the church WhatsApp group reportedly led to Reverend Mukahanana being ridiculed and mocked by members of his church.

This caused him extreme embarrassment and humiliation, to the point where he reportedly committed suicide on Friday, November 4, 2022.

Local media reported that some members of the church even went so far as to create memes mocking him over the adultery scandal. Reverend Mukahanana's death is a tragic reminder of the devastating effects that cyberbullying and online shaming can have on individuals.
