A devastating gas explosion occurred on Church Street, along Ebute Road in the Ibafo area of Ogun State, resulting in the tragic loss of lives of a mother, Rafiat Sheriff, 40, and her seven-year-old daughter, Asisat, on Saturday, July 6.

According to eyewitnesses, the mother had asked her daughter to light the gas burner for their evening meal when the gas cylinder suddenly burst into flames, engulfing the entire apartment in fire. The mother and daughter were unable to escape and lost their lives in the blaze.

The police command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident and reported that two other individuals, including one of the deceased's children, are currently receiving treatment in the hospital for severe injuries.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of gas safety and the need for precautions to prevent such devastating accidents.
