A second-year female student at Federal University Dutse (FUD) in Jigawa State has allegedly thrown her newborn baby from an upper floor of the female hostel.

Jigawa Police Command spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident, stating that the student gave birth to a baby girl and then threw the baby from the hostel, resulting in the baby's immediate death.

The baby was taken to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse, where a doctor confirmed the infant was dead on arrival.

"Reliable sources indicate that a 200-level student of Federal University Dutse (FUD) gave birth to a baby girl and subsequently threw her from an upper floor of the female hostel, causing the baby's instant death," DSP Adam said.

A police team arrived at the scene, transporting both the baby and the mother to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital, where the baby's death was confirmed. The mother was admitted and is responding to treatment.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, DSP Adam noted.
