"We are disappointed, but not surprised," said a spokesperson for the Biden administration. "We will continue to fight for the rights of LGBT students to receive an education free from discrimination."

The rule, which was set to take effect, would have prohibited schools and colleges from discriminating against students based on their gender identity. However, the 10 Republican-led states challenged the rule, arguing that it infringed on their rights.

"The Supreme Court's decision is a blow to the LGBT community," said Sarah Taylor, Executive Director of the LGBT advocacy group, Equality Now. "We urge the Biden administration to explore alternative avenues to ensure that LGBT students are protected from discrimination."

The Supreme Court's decision highlights the ongoing debate over LGBT rights and the role of the federal government in protecting marginalized communities.

"We will not give up," said President Biden. "We will continue to work towards a future where every student can receive an education without fear of discrimination."
