VeryDarkMan Rearrested for Exposing Fraudster, Accuses Police of Defamation

His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, revealed that VeryDarkMan was apprehended for exposing an individual who allegedly defrauded a Nigerian abroad.

According to Adeyanju, instead of arresting the fraudster, the police arrested VeryDarkMan on allegations of defamation. This move has sparked outrage and raised questions about the police's priorities in handling cases of fraud and cybercrime.

VeryDarkMan's previous arrest occurred on May 22, 2024, when he was arraigned on five counts of cyberstalking. The police prosecution team requested more time to respond to his application, and the court granted their request. Despite his lawyers' efforts to keep him in police custody, VeryDarkMan was taken to the National Cybercrime Centre.

On June 10, 2024, a Federal High Court in Abuja granted VeryDarkMan bail, and he was subsequently released from police custody after satisfying the bail conditions.

This rearrest has sparked concerns about the freedom of speech and the role of the police in protecting citizens from fraud and cybercrime. VeryDarkMan's lawyers and supporters are calling for his immediate release and an end to the harassment and intimidation. The case continues to unfold, with many watching closely to see how the police and judiciary handle this matter.
