An unidentified male pedestrian lost his life in Ketu, along the Mile 12-Ikorodu Expressway in Lagos State, when a commercial bus collided with two vehicles.

The incident, which took place early on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, resulted from the bus driver's speeding and subsequent loss of control due to brake failure while transporting perishable items.

Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), reported that the accident occurred around 6:45 a.m. LASTMA personnel rescued a female passenger who was trapped inside one of the buses.

The statement from LASTMA explained that a fully loaded commercial Toyota Hiace Bus (with registration number NSW 216 XA) carrying pepper and other perishable items crashed into two Volkswagen commercial buses, leading to the death of a male pedestrian at Ketu by Demuri Junction inward Kosofe, Lagos.

The driver of the commercial bus was apprehended by LASTMA personnel, with security backup provided by policemen from Alapere Police Station during the rescue operations. Olawaye Olugbenga, Head of Zone 32 Ketu at LASTMA, confirmed that all commercial buses involved in the accident were evacuated to ensure smooth traffic flow towards Kosofe, Mile 12 area.

Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, urged pedestrians to use designated bus stops and cautioned both commercial and private drivers against overspeeding and ensuring their vehicles are in good condition.
