However, the women departed two hours later, leaving Araya behind. His brother, Eduardo Araya, alleges that the women stole his credit cards and phone, using them for various transactions, including Uber rides, gas station purchases, groceries, and jewelry.

Eduardo Araya suspects that his brother's death was not an isolated incident, but rather part of a larger criminal operation targeting tourists. He believes that the women were involved in a gang that uses sedatives, such as burundanga (scopolamine), to incapacitate victims. Burundanga is a potent drug that can cause unconsciousness for up to 24 hours or more, and larger doses can be deadly.

The cause of Alex Araya's death has not been officially released, but his family's concerns about foul play are warranted. His body showed no visible signs of trauma, similar to other tourists who have met with similar fate in the area.
