Arsenal's hopes in the Premier League title race took a hit with a 2-0 home loss to Aston Villa at the Emirates. Goals from Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins sealed the victory for Villa, who are in contention for a Champions League spot.

A win for Arsenal would have allowed them to overtake Manchester City at the top of the table.

However, City currently lead with 73 points, followed by Arsenal and Liverpool in second and third place respectively, both on 71 points. Villa remain in fourth place with 63 points, three points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur.

Former Arsenal manager Unai Emery, now in charge of Villa, has now defeated Arsenal twice this season. Bailey opened the scoring in the 84th minute, capitalizing on a low cross from Lucas Digne. Watkins then doubled the lead in the 87th minute, volleying in a pass from Youri Tielemans.

In another match on Sunday, Liverpool missed the chance to go top of the table temporarily, losing 1-0 to Crystal Palace at Anfield. Eberechi Eze scored the only goal of the game in the 14th minute, securing the win for Palace.

Liverpool's defeat comes after a 3-0 loss to Atalanta in the Europa League quarter-finals first leg on Thursday.
