A teacher, David Yusuf, was arraigned on Tuesday before a Wuse Zone II Magistrates' Court in Abuja, for allegedly flogging a student of the Government Girls College, Kuje, FCT.

Yusuf was charged with two counts of grievous harm without provocation and assault.

According to the police prosecutor, Mr Edwin Inegbenoise, the complainant, Henry Iortim, reported the case to the Kuje Divisional Police Headquarters, which was later transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department, FCT, for further investigation.

Magistrate Abdulmajid Oniyangi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties, who must be resident within the court's jurisdiction and have their addresses verified by the court registrar. The case was adjourned until November 6, 2022, for hearing and the presentation of witnesses by the prosecution.

The defendant was also ordered to remain in custody until he met his bail conditions. The court further directed that the case file be remanded at the registrar's office and a hearing notice served on the prosecution and defense counsels.
