Lagos Shuts Down Okeodo Market for Unsanitary Conditions, Waste Mismanagement:

The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) carried out a raid on Okeodo market in Ile-Epo, near Abule Egba, on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, to enforce compliance with the state's environmental sanitation laws.

The raid was conducted at the direction of the state's Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.

The commissioner announced the raid in a statement, noting that it was taken in response to repeated violations of sanitation laws at the market.In the statement, Wahab stated that LAGESC officials found various forms of environmental nuisance at the market, including poor waste management, the blocking of drainage channels, and the conversion of public spaces into shops.

He noted that similar operations have been carried out across the state to curb the flagrant disregard for sanitation laws and to maintain a clean and livable environment.

The statement also noted that the market would remain sealed until the necessary corrective measures are taken by the traders.
