Mass Kidnapping of IDPs by Suspected Boko Haram in Borno State

Over 100 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Borno State, Northeast Nigeria were kidnapped by suspected Boko Haram terrorists while collecting firewood in Gamboru Ngala near the Nigerian border with the Republic of Chad.

Residents reported that around 200 IDPs, both male and female, were taken, with the able-bodied individuals selected by the terrorists while children and the elderly were released.

This incident occurred shortly after the state governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, claimed that 95 percent of individuals with Boko Haram ideology had been either eliminated or surrendered to Nigerian forces.

Boko Haram has been responsible for killing thousands and displacing millions over the past decade.
