Meghan Markle has won a significant legal victory in the defamation lawsuit filed against her by her half-sister, Samantha Markle.

The lawsuit, which claimed that Meghan made false and malicious statements about Samantha to a global audience following her 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, was dismissed by a Florida judge.

The judge ruled that Meghan's comments were expressions of her opinion about her own childhood and relationship with her half-sibling, and therefore could not be proven false.

The judge also found no examples of defamation in Meghan and Prince Harry's Netflix docuseries or the interview with Oprah Winfrey. Samantha Markle had accused Meghan of lying about her family history and had sought damages, but Meghan called the lawsuit "meritless" in her response.
