Minister of Works Senator Dave Umahi announced the commencement of compensation payouts to property owners impacted by the 700km highway project in Lagos.

The federal government had earlier inaugurated a committee on April 4 to review and compensate landowners affected by the project. Umahi emphasized the committee's goal of ensuring transparency in all its activities. He unveiled the new design route and initiated compensation from chainage zero to chainage three, totaling ₦2.75 billion, which he described as ambitious.

Umahi assured that all recipients would receive their compensation as agreed by 1 p.m. the next day. He also stated that tenants affected by the Landmark demolition would receive compensation by the end of the day. Korede Keisha, Chairman of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway compensation committee, confirmed the phased approach to compensation, with the first 10 recipients receiving their payments on the day of the announcement.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway aims to connect Lagos to Cross River, passing through several coastal states. Each kilometer of the 700-kilometer highway is estimated to cost ₦4 billion. I q
