Police Arrest Syndicate Impersonating EFCC, Robbing Students in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command apprehended three suspected members of a criminal syndicate who impersonated EFCC officials and allegedly robbed students of Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, as well as abducted Adudu Kingsley, an ND II student.

The command's spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, revealed in a statement on May 1, 2024, that a fourth member of the syndicate was caught by an angry mob and beaten before being rescued by the police.

Despite efforts to save him, the suspect died while receiving treatment at Primary Health Care, Laminga. The remaining three suspects, Hyelda Aliyu Ibrahim, Henry Patrick Okwu, and Shuaibu Abubakar, residents of Customs Quarters and Up Market area of Masaka, Karu LGA of Nasarawa State, were later apprehended.

The suspects, using a Toyota Corolla with registration number Abuja YAB 509 TT, robbed the students at Samakwe Lodge behind Government College, Nasarawa LGA, and abducted Adudu Kingsley. They tried to escape but were intercepted by police roadblocks. One suspect was caught by the mob, and the others fled. The recovered vehicle contained two identification cards linking the fleeing suspects to the syndicate. Three additional members, including the operational driver, were arrested after further investigation.

Recovered items included an iPhone 12 Pro Max, Huawei, and Tecno Spark 5 phones, along with fake EFCC ID cards. The suspects confessed to various robberies in student areas in Keffi and Nasarawa LGA. One suspect remains at large, and victims have identified the arrested suspects. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia, for further investigation, with the assurance that the suspects will be prosecuted once investigations are completed.
