Reno Omokri sides with President Bola Tinubu's decision to remove the petrol subsidy:

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri sides with President Bola Tinubu's decision to remove the petrol subsidy and reform the foreign exchange market saying it has started yielding positive results.

The PDP leader praised Tinubu for ending the subsidy system, which he believed Buhari should have done instead of borrowing to cover the monthly ₦400bn cost. This was stated during an interview with Laolu Akande on Inside Sources on Channels Television on March 8, 2024.

The President's announcement on May 29, 2023, that "subsidy is gone" led to a significant increase in fuel prices and, combined with the floatation of the naira, resulted in severe food and hunger crises in Nigeria. Protests have broken out due to the unbearable living conditions.

Omokri attributed the current challenges to the previous administration's mismanagement and mentioned that all major 2023 presidential candidates, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, had pledged to eliminate petrol subsidies.

He defended the government's actions, stating that progress is being made, with a reduction in fuel imports and an increase in local refining. He also responded to claims by Dele Farotimi that the rule of law had collapsed in Nigeria, asserting that the country is still functioning legally.
