In a surprising turn of events, former Donald Trump attorney Sidney Powell has pleaded guilty to election interference in Georgia.

Sidney Powell plea Guilty in Georgia Election Case:

Powell admitted to her role in the 2021 breach of election systems in Coffee County, Georgia, with the help of local Republican officials. The group copied information from the county's election systems in an attempt to prove the election was rigged against Trump.

Powell's plea comes just one day before her trial was set to begin. Prosecutors are recommending a sentence of six years probation, an apology letter to Georgia's citizens, and nearly $9,000 in restitution and fines.

It's important to note that after the 2020 election, Powell had pushed conspiracy theories about voter fraud and made false claims about millions of votes being flipped by foreign powers in a plot against Trump. In the racketeering case, Powell is the second person to plead guilty, joining bail bondsman Scott Hall.

The remaining 17 defendants, including Trump, have pleaded not guilty. As part of her plea, Powell admitted to tampering with voting systems and taking information from Dominion Voting Systems, the company whose equipment was used in Coffee County.

The implications of this plea are still developing, and the outcome of the case remains to be seen.In her guilty plea, Powell also admitted to hiring a data forensics firm to access Coffee County government computers without permission.

While her lawyers had previously denied any involvement in the Coffee County incident, this new development has shaken the case.

CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig commented that this is a "big breakthrough for the prosecutors," and a significant turn of events in the case. It will be interesting to see how this development affects the outcome of the trial.
