A shocking incident of domestic violence has occurred in South Africa, with tragic consequences.

A man, who is an armed response officer, shot and killed his estranged wife in front of their 10-year-old daughter before turning the gun on himself.

The incident took place in the KwaZulu-Natal province, at a home where the man had come to pick up his daughter. The man and his wife were reportedly separated, but the details of their separation and the motive for the shooting are not yet known.

The man is in critical condition in hospital, while the young girl was left traumatized by the event.
