Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently chairing a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting, the third of its kind under the Tinubu administration, comes just over six weeks after the council approved the distribution of N5 billion to each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to alleviate the hardship caused by the removal of the petrol subsidy on May 29.
The agenda of the meeting is expected to include discussions on the progress of the economy, as well as updates on the nation's finances and efforts to alleviate the hardship caused by the removal of the petrol subsidy.
It is also expected that the council will discuss ongoing plans to diversify the economy, reduce inflation, and boost job creation.
The council is made up of state governors and other top government officials, and it plays a crucial role in providing policy recommendations to the president.
