A devastating incident occurred at Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, resulting in the tragic death of a student, Alex, who was allegedly beaten to death by his colleagues for stealing a mobile phone.

The brutal assault, which began around 10 p.m. on Friday, was fueled by anger and a desire for revenge, leading to a vicious cycle of violence that ultimately claimed Alex's life.

The events unfolded rapidly, with Alex's colleagues discovering the alleged theft and taking matters into their own hands. A viral video clip showed a male student mercilessly beating Alex with a cane, while another student encouraged the brutality, shouting "harder, harder."

The students' rage was further exacerbated by the alleged transfer of money from the stolen phone to another account.

In the aftermath of the incident, the university authorities took swift action, expelling the students involved in the fight that led to Alex's death. The institution's Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Atoyebi, categorically denied reports linking the perpetrators to a secret cult, emphasizing that the university has zero tolerance for anti-societal vices and misconduct.

Atoyebi clarified that the expelled students were not part of any cult group, but rather, their inability to control their emotions led to the tragic outcome. The university has handed over the students involved to the police for investigation, ensuring that justice will be served.
