This intense storm has brought with it powerful winds and torrential rains, with gusts reaching 245 kilometers per hour (152 mph).

Authorities have taken extensive safety measures, evacuating thousands of residents from areas most vulnerable to landslides and flooding.

In anticipation of the typhoon’s direct impact, Taiwan's government has mobilized nearly 40,000 troops to aid in potential rescue operations.

Krathon is expected to make landfall on Taiwan’s densely populated western coast, with Kaohsiung, one of the largest port cities, bracing for the worst.

Forecasts predict up to 80 centimeters (31 inches) of rainfall in some of the island's mountainous regions, where landslides are a major concern.

Residents in Kaohsiung and surrounding cities are already witnessing closures of stores and public spaces as authorities prepare for the storm's arrival.

Meanwhile, the storm has already wreaked havoc in the northern Philippines, displacing thousands and damaging critical infrastructure, including roofs, trees, and airports.

Taiwan’s capital, Taipei, is expected to feel the full brunt of the storm on Wednesday and Thursday, as the typhoon moves northeast toward the East China Sea.

This large-scale response reflects Taiwan’s preparedness for natural disasters, as the region is frequently affected by typhoons during the summer and fall seasons.
