The arrest was confirmed by Mohammed Amin, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) boss, in a statement on Sunday, April 28, 2024. Mustakima Ali, also known as Abu Mahir, and his accomplices had initially hidden within Boni Forest after the murders but were later flushed out by security personnel.

Despite fleeing to a neighbouring country, Mustakima Ali's gang members attempted to return to Kenya in April 2023, only to be intercepted and arrested along the Isiolo-Moyale highway while heading to Somalia. They are currently facing charges at the Kahawa Law Courts, with other suspects still at large being actively pursued by the police.
