A sad event has struck the Nigerian media industry with the death of Jimmy Abaekong, a reporter for the Africa Independent Television (AIT) based in Enugu, South-East Nigeria.
Abaekong, who is in his 40s, was said to have died in his sleep on Monday, leaving behind a wife and two children.
The news of his death was first announced on social media by AIT's anchor and reporter, Anthony Iwuoha.
Iwuoha described Abaekong as a "gentle soul" and "one of the best cameramen in the country." He also expressed shock at the news of his death.
Other colleagues and associates have also taken to social media to express their grief and condolences.
AIT has not yet made an official statement on Abaekong's death, but his passing is a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of celebrating and appreciating the lives of those around us.
