A final year student of the University of Benin has been shot and left in a critical condition after being hit with three bullets by unknown cult members.

The student was said to have been shot while returning from the hostel on Friday evening.

He was rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

The incident has caused panic among students, who are demanding better security from the university authorities.

The university has not yet issued a statement on the incident.
