The Chief Imam of the Falomo Lagos Central Mosque, Dr. Tajudeen Adebayo, has called for the public to show respect for Muslim worshippers by avoiding eating in their presence during fasting hours. Adebayo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that such acts can be demoralizing to those who are fasting.

He noted that eating in public during Ramadan debases the sanctity of the religious exercise and is viewed as a disrespect to those observing the ritual of fasting. Fagge also noted that the practice of hisbah, or Islamic police, in Kano had helped curb public eating during Ramadan season.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Chief Imam of the Falomo Lagos Central Mosque, Dr. Tajudeen Adebayo, urged the public to respect Muslim worshippers during the month of Ramadan by avoiding eating in their presence.

He explained that in an ideal Islamic setting, Ramadan fasting is a sacred practice and should be respected by all. He further explained that those who are exempted from fasting are not expected to eat publicly as it may be seen as disrespect for the fasting person.
