Juventus Ordered to Pay Cristiano Ronaldo £8.3 Million in Arbitration Case

In September, Ronaldo, who currently plays for Saudi club Al-Nassr, decided to take legal action against Juventus regarding unpaid wages during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Portuguese forward sought £17 million, the net amount he was promised by the club when he agreed to defer his wages during the lockdown.

Juventus players had collectively agreed to defer four months' worth of their salaries in March 2020 and April 2021 due to the club's financial struggles, which were not fulfilled.

Additionally, the Italian club failed to report these deferred wages, known as 'salary manoeuvres,' in their financial statements. Gazzetta reported that the arbitration tribunal ruled that both Ronaldo and Juventus were responsible for the matter and ordered the club to pay half of the deferred wages.

Ronaldo, 38, left Juventus in August 2021 after a three-season stint, during which he scored 101 goals in 134 appearances. He now plays for Al-Nassr and was recently sent off for violent conduct during a 2-1 defeat against Al-Hilal. Ronaldo received a yellow card in the first half for unsportsmanlike conduct and was shown a red card in the second half for appearing to elbow Al-Hilal's Ali Al-Bulaihi while attempting to take a quick throw-in.
